On the eve of Earth Hour ‘09, I thought that I’d share some thoughts with you on the subject.
First of all, I’d just like to say to all of you participating that you are not helping anyone or anything in any way, shape, or form. You’re not saving the world from melting, nor are you being “environmentally friendly.” Anyone that is participating in this sham of an event is simply trying to find a way in his/her desperate and insignificant life to try and feel like he/she is actually making a difference in the world. All you’re doing is sending yourself back to the dark ages. You’re accomplishing absolutely nothing positive!
In fact, the only thing that you’re doing is harm. First of all, by participating in Earth Hour, you’re depriving the electric companies in your area of the necessary business needed to stay afloat in already troubled times. You liberals always say that you’re for the little guy and that the Republicans are the greedy ones, yet you’re the ones depriving businesses in peril of their necessary funds. Who do you people think you are? What are you gonna do next, go on strike against the water companies and refuse to bathe? Then again, I wonder about the hygiene of some of you hippies the way you are right now, so I guess I shouldn’t have said that.
And another thing; even if you believe in all of this global warming bull, you’re still not doing anything positive. Think about it; if all of your lights are off and you’re forbidden to use electricity, what are you going to do in order to see? It’s the middle of the night, so you need some sort of way to create light. The only way you’ll be able to see now is with the aid of candlelight, which leads me to my next argument. According to an article written by an anonymous student at the University of Melbourne in Australia, burning candles instead of using light bulbs actually increases carbon dioxide emissions, in comparison to the use of everyday light bulbs. In addition to agreeing with the fact that Earth Hour promotes a primitive society, he also mathematically proves through 4 postulates that for every candle that is burned to replace electric lighting during Earth Hour, greenhouse gas emissions over the course of the one hour are increased by 9.6 g of carbon dioxide. And that’s just one candle! Now multiply this by a few million, and you libs have a real problem on your hands. So to sum it up, even if you believe in the Gore way of living, you’re still not doing your agenda any good.
The thing is though, most people don’t even realize this. They get all swept up in the fervor of a big national event, and all they can help themselves to do is to go right along with it like a mindless drone. They make it seem like everyone is participating in order to try and somehow guilt you into joining their cause. And this is just for the everyday homeowner. If you’re a business owner, it’s a whole different ballgame. Through systematic intimidation and fear mongering, you’re all but forced to comply, lest you lose all your customers. The end goal of this is to turn everybody liberal.
Now you might be thinking to yourself, “How does simply turning off the lights for an hour make everybody liberal?” In fact, it does so in many ways that are consistent with the core liberal beliefs and agenda. The first, as I mentioned before, is a turning back of the clocks to the stone age. Libs are always the people that try to impede economic and private business progress. The second reason is the more obvious of the two, which involves forcing a false idea into the heads of the masses that living like cavemen will save the planet from ultimate destruction. Third and finally, it actually emits more carbon dioxide than just the act of using light bulbs, for those of you that actually care about an alleged planet-melting gas that is produced naturally every single second when a person exhales, flatulates, or belches. Like I told you before, it’s all about turning the masses into a bunch of kool-aid drinking numbskulls without a brain or free will.
Now, if you’re like me and fiercely oppose this garbage, there’s something that you can do about it. Much akin to the recent porkulus tea parties, a national protest against Earth Hour has been proposed by many conservative figureheads such as Rush Limbaugh. Therefore, I encourage you to protest this nonsense in the following way. The basic idea is that instead of turning off all of your electronics, you turn every possible light or electronic device in your house on. I’m talking every single light. Make your house light up like a freakin’ Christmas tree. Get Christmas lights and string them around your house. All of your hippie neighbors may think that you’re just being an ignoramus, but in reality, you’re using your freedom of expression and protest to show your opposition to the spread of harmful lies and deceit. Do whatever it takes to show the world that you won’t stand up for this nonsense.
And with that, I close my thoughts about the issue. As I finish writing this article, it’s about 30 min until Earth Hour actually begins in my time zone (That’s EST for those of you Obama voters). I could go into even more detail as to why I oppose this contrivance of a “global cause,” but alas, I do not have the time. For now, I will be bracing myself for what is to come. Who knows what could happen during an hour of darkness. Perhaps a baby boom? I don’t even wanna know what the scumbag, sex-obsessed majority of my fellow high school students plans on doing. I’ll catch you guys on the flip side.
UPDATE 3/28 @ 11:16 PM: Due to a lack of faith on Twitter regarding my comments about carbon dioxide emissions in candles as opposed to light bulbs, I did a quick Google search and found multiple sources that agree with my argument that it is indeed worse.

You realise this is more symbolic than practical, right?
While I do realize that this whole hoax of a “movement” is an attempt at being symbolic, it does nothing but hurt electric companies, increase CO2 emissions (for those of us who care, not me), and turn us into cavemen. It does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING positive.
Your logic is flawed and you’re such a dork.
No sir/ma’am/anonymous troll, you are the dork. Only someone with such a high social aptitude as yourself would spend their Saturday nights trolling around the blogosphere singling out people to diminish, and with no reasoning as well. If you want to legitmately debate me, go right ahead. Hit me with your best shot.
symbolic or not, it isn’t helping their cause..in fact it’s adding to the trouble they’re trying to set out to fix (in addition to making them seem like a less legitimate hippie loving association..whats next? are we going to sit around in a circle and hold hands to symbolize the unity that is necessary to save our planet?)
Tell me about it, LOL.
In response to an above commenter’s post regarding symbolism. That seems to be the problem with the entire progressive movement. Symbolism instead of real solutions. The means justify the ends. Intentions are more important than results, etc.
DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!
When it comes to democrats, the only thing that matters is their “good intentions” or “feel-good attitudes.” There’s no accountability in what actually accomplish. But when Republicans have to choose the decisions that actually make a difference, like defending ourselves against terrorists or harnessing our nation’s energy reserves (in the form of oil), they get lampooned.
I guess the sooner that we all realize this double standard, the better.
ok…maybe im completely alone here but wouldn’t it be nice to hear an actual original idea from any of these conservative rants instead of constant pointless badgering. Why don’t you use 10% of your endless blogging time trying to create solutions instead of throwing crap at the wall.
Here’s the thing, skippy. I’m not a lawmaker, understand? I’m a United States citizen. As a citizen, it’s my job to keep lawmakers, as well as all politicians accountable for their actions. The way I do it is through my blog and through conversations with my friends and family.
And another thing. All people – liberals, moderates, and conservatives – have the right to criticize our elected officials, their policies, and just popular sentiment in general. I’m sick and tired of people who, in an effort to shut people up and go with the flow, insist that they “do something constructive” instead of as you say “throw crap at the wall.” I can’t stand how people have to always find a way to demonize criticism. I do share solutions to things as I discover them, but I also have a right to critique bad ideas as well. It’s called the 1st amendment. Stop trying to shut people up.
And by the way, I hardly have endless blogging time. I have a life, unlike somebody like you who anonymously trolls on WordPress.
criticize all you want. that is why our nation is great. the only thing i’m saying is that anyone can tell someone they are stupid and wrong. the real challenge that is presenting itself to our nation at the moment is that everyone is criticizing and nobody is constructing
That is very true, but you have to understand that we as humans, for whatever reason, are extremely resistant to change. Because of this, we only change things if there is a rational reason given as to why what we’re currently doing is wrong. That rational reason comes through CRITICISM. That’s why it’s so important that we keep on criticizing current and future elected officials, pressuring them to do the right thing and to stay away from harmful and irresponsible policies.
Therefore, the construction that you are speaking of can only be created through criticism of the current establishment of the country.
